Class Topic: What is Graphic Design?


Unit 4. Lesson 3- Photoshop Training 3
(1week)

Essential Unit Question:
What is Adobe Photoshop?

     Essential Lesson Question:
What can the effects in Photoshop be used for?


     Lesson Objective:
Given previous knowledge from the last lesson and the burn and dodge tools and new Photoshop effects, the student  will choose a donut and donut shop to create using Adobe Photoshop.

     Activity:
Students will complete a tutorial /project using the lasso tools and burn/dodge and Photoshop effects.  Each assignment will be submitted to turnitintomsw@gmail.com and edmodo.
      
    Assessment:

1. Donut Shop

Step 1.
Open an 8 by 10 inch document.  Call it your last name followed by 4.


Step 2.
Make a new layer CALL IT DOUGHNUT!
Create a doughnut shape with elliptical marquee tool:

(Just the outer circle)
Drop in color of choice with paint bucket tool.
Cut out the center hole by selecting and cutting.



Step 3.
Burn the edges of the doughnut and dodge the inner section to add depth to the doughnut.


Step 4.
Add texture with filter-->artistic-->sponge
(Adjust to make it look like a real doughnut’s surface)


Step 5.
Make a new layer call it icing!
Use the lasso tool to draw icing.
Drop color with paint bucket tool.
Use the dodge and burn tool to add shadow and highlights to this layer.




Step 6.
Filter-->Artistic-->Plastic Wrap
Layer-->Layer Style-->Drop Shadow
Step 7.
Download sprinkles brush

Click ZIP
In Photoshop click brush selection tool on top and import brush.
Add sprinkles on a new layer called sprinkles!
Burn and dodge to add 3-D look.


Step 8.
Add text by clicking the T and clicking on the document.
To add border around letters:
Layer-->Layer Style-->Stroke
Go back to background layer and drop a color with paint bucket.











Step 9.
Add lighting effects for contrast to background layer.
Filter-->Render-->Lighting Effects






Make your own Food Product:

Create an advertisement:
Text can be added in Illustrator if you choose!
11 by 17 in Photoshop

What it should contain-
1. Company Name
2. Company Slogan
3. Image of Food Fully Made in Photoshop (highlights and shadows)
4. Color Scheme/ Harmony Planned Out
5. Visual Hierarchy! What is most important?
