__________________________________________________________________________

     Essential Lesson Question:
How can you use typography and the elements and principles to create a layout?

     Lesson Objective:
Given a list of fonts on Adobe Illustrator, the student will research three of them and create a layout design for each completing this using Adobe Illustrator and their knowledge of typography and the elements/principles.

     Activity:
Students will complete three layout designs after researching three typefaces of Adobe Illustrator.  Each layout will be submitted to turnitintomsw@gmail.com.

    Assessment:

Create 4 layout designs.

2 of them: GREY SCALE! NO COLOR…
2 of them: 1 COLOR! MONOCHROMATIC

1.        Open an 8 by 8 Illustrator document.

2.       Choose an interesting font on Illustrator.

3.       Enlarge one or more letters using that font so that they are no longer recognizable.  They may run off the page in which case you may want to cut part of the letter off or cover it with a white box so you can’t see it. OR create a shape using small barely readable letters.

4.       Once the enlarged letter(s) are in place, write the name of the font so that it fits into the scheme.  Line it up with something, follow an outline or have equal spacing between two shapes.

5.       Write at least a five word sentence that describes this font or a quote that coincides with the style or name of the font.  Arrange this using the same ideas as listed above.  Think about whether you want it to overlap, stand out, or both.

6.       Choose a background color.  You can create this by making an 8 by 8 box in the background.

7.       Repeat these steps 3 more times.  You should have a total of 4 examples.
